Smokefree Fires

smokefree living

When we moved in it was important for us to find a suitable wood burning stove. It had to function as the primary heat source, providing heating for the entire house.

We use the stove on a daily basis, but we often found that smoke billowed into the living room and that the glass doors on the stove became covered in soot, not to mention the the black sooty shadow that appeared on the wall behind the stove.

It turned out that in our search for the biggest and best stove we had not considered the potential problem between the size of the oven and the size of the chimney. The house is also situated close to a number of large trees, which means that during certain weather conditions the updraught in the chimney is reduced, making it difficult to light the fire.

We were told that we could solve the problem using a remote controlled EXHAUSTO chimney fan. It took us an afternoon to install the chimney fan ourselves.

The remote control includes a 5 metre cable and plug as standard, this allowed us to plug it in close to the stove.

We have now been using the chimney fan for a couple of months and we're happy to say that it works really well.

It's extremely effective and we no longer have any smoke billowing out into the living room when we open the stove door. We can actually see the smoke disappearing up the chimney ...

We should also add that we take much more pleasure from the actual fire now that we can see it through the glass door.
