House architecture

Rikke 123

We live in an old house and we wanted to build an extension.

We knew that we wanted as much light as possible, so we decided to construct a glass atrium between the new and the old buildings. The atrium was designed to function as a kind of conservatory, with a wood burning stove built in to keep it warm in winter and to make it especially inviting to use.

To prevent ruining the original look of the house, and to avoid having to look at a chimney from inside the atrium, we decided to go for as low a chimney as possible. However, this meant that there would be a good chance that the updraught in the chimney would not be sufficient, and that the glass roof of the atrium risked becoming covered in soot.

We got round this problem by deciding to install an EXHAUSTO chimney fan. This turned out to be absolutely the right decision for us and for our house! We were able to build the chimney we wanted, and we have not had any problems with smoke or poor updraught. On top of the freedom to build what we wanted, the chimney fan has also meant that the big glass door in the stove does not get covered in soot, and that the stove no longer generates as much dust and soot as we had been used to with the old stove without a chimney fan.
